Prime Minister Urges Citizens to Avoid Movements Disrupting National Unity

Phnom Penh, November 21, 2024 — Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on citizens to refrain from participating in any movements or incitements that could disrupt national unity, particularly in light of recent statements from opposition groups regarding border issues. His remarks follow focused discussions on maritime border negotiations concerning Koh Kut between Cambodia and Thailand.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the conference summarizing the work results of the Ministry of Mines and Energy for 2023-2024 and outlining the direction for 2025, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the need for harmony based on accurate information. He urged citizens not to promote fake news or violence, nor to engage in illegal activities reminiscent of previous conflicts. “Khmer has been at war for 500 years. May there be peace and not suffering,” he stated, calling for unity across various celebrations, whether it be the Chinese New Year, Khmer New Year, or Christmas.

The Prime Minister warned against mixing politics with critical negotiations, such as those related to the OCA (Other Cooperation Agreement), which could exacerbate tensions around the border issue. He underscored the importance of understanding the government’s efforts to protect national interests, including the integrity of Cambodia’s waters and land.

In his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated the government's commitment to promoting co-development and fostering good cooperation with friends. He stressed that the principles established by the Royal Government prioritize the benefits of all citizens, appealing to the public to remain united and avoid participation in actions that threaten societal stability and national harmony.
